Towards sustainability – Questions about the role of labels, scores and informative apps for signalling the sustainability of food
Jutta Roosen, joint with Larissa S Drescher and Stephan Marette
The EU Farm to Fork strategy has called for advancing and harmonizing sustainability labelling on food products, in addition to developing a proposal for a mandatory front of pack nutrition labelling. The presentation will assess the literature on these types of labels. The aim is not to provide a complete literature review of all empirical studies assessing the effectiveness of such labels, but to identify and organize the open questions regarding the use of labels, encompassing scores or informative apps for signalling the sustainability of food. Jutta Roosen is Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at the Technical University of Munich. Her research focuses on food choices by consumers in their social and cultural context. Based on this approach she analyses consequences for food markets and policy. Jutta studied Agricultural Economics at the University of Bonn and Washington State University (USA) and she received her Ph. D. in Economics at Iowa State University (USA). Jutta is Fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association and serves as President of the European Association of Agricultural Economists and co-editor of Food Policy. |
